Distance Learning
Obtaining professional certification represents a wise choice for the health care professional desiring to offer patients and clients high quality neurofeedback training and therapy.  Certification offers credibility and well-deserved respect for individuals who undergo the rigor and discipline required to attain specialist status amongst their peers. Insurance companies are requiring certification more often than not and the educated patient or client may well choose their clinician based on the clinician’s certification status.  Let’s face it, when we choose our physicians and other health care providers, certification in ones area of expertise is simply expected.

Beginning a new career or extending one’s knowledge in one’s existing career usually requires travel to several workshops offering the educational information necessary when “certification” is the goal.  Value of time spent away from one’s clinic and home represents an intangible cost.  However, actual hard costs associated with  workshop registration fees, airfare, auto rental, hotel, food and miscellaneous needs tend to cost thousands of dollars per workshop.  Finally, a time -efficient and cost-effective solution has emerged – The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course. StressTherapy Solutions, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio is an educational corporation offering the biofeedback community access to some of the most highly respected instructors in the industry.  Best known since the late 80′s as an alternative medicine source and publisher of the past newspaper Chronic Pain Solutions, StressTherapy Solutions, Inc. markets educational workshops, courses, books, and products. StressTherapy Solutions, Inc. is proud to be chosen by New Mind Neurofeedback as it’s exclusive U.S. marketing agent for The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course.

The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course provides students with all of the materials required to prepare for the didactic portion of the BCIA certification requirement.  A dedicated full time Ph.D. in psychology and neurofeedback (with clinical experience) monitors the course and actively assists the student to better understand the material.  This course follows the BCIA “Blueprint of Knowledge” very closely and was written for clinicians in an easy-to-understand format. It not only covers the scientific literature in the field regarding all the various disorders and protocols, but also explains how to actually “do neurofeedback”.

What can I expect as a student of the New Mind Neurofeedback Web course?

The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course provides a means for individuals who wish to complete 40 didactic hours of BCIA-approved training an opportunity to do so over the Internet.  Upon registration, students will receive a passkey to log on to the New Mind Neurofeedback website and access the modules they wish to study in order to obtain certified didactic hours.

In addition, they will receive an invitation to join the course discussion group, where questions regarding readings can be discussed with other students or the instructor. A dedicated staff member, who is an experienced college professor, will monitor the discussion group and all aspects of the course on an ongoing basis.  All required reading materials are included.

The course has been written in an easy to understand manner and is fully cited. The author draws upon extensive experience at the clinical level as well as from years of teaching EEG biofeedback to other professionals in both the clinical and workshop setting. Many modules in the course have already been field tested and received enthusiastic praise from students learning EEG biofeedback.

Whether your intent is to obtain as much neurofeedback knowledge as possible or to obtain the necessary hours required by BCIA you will find this course to be highly informative, easy to follow and cost effective.

New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course

Professional certification offers credibility and well-deserved respect for individuals who have gone through the rigor and discipline needed to attain recognized specialist status. As insurance companies expand coverage to include neurofeedback, they are generally requiring certification as an assurance of competence to practice. Most patients or clients prefer a certified professional to one who is not. People choosing doctors and other health care providers have come to expect certification in their areas of expertise.

Beginning a new career or extending one’s expertise in an existing career usually requires travel to one or more workshops offering the specialized educational information necessary to become certified — which can pose a hardship in time and money. The value of time spent away from one’s office/clinic may be an intangible cost, but the tangible expenses — such as airfare, auto rental, hotel, food and miscellaneous needs add considerably to the cost of workshop registration fees. The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course has emerged as a time-efficient and cost-effective option, and StressTherapy Solutions, Inc. is proud to be chosen by New Mind Neurofeedback as its exclusive U.S. marketing agent.

The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course provides students with all of the materials required to fulfill the didactic portion of the BCIA certification requirement. We have dedicated staff (Ph.D. in psychology and neurofeedback experience) monitor the course and actively help our students better understand the material. This course follows the BCIA “Blueprint of Knowledge” and was written for clinicians in an easy-to-understand format. It not only covers the scientific literature in the field regarding clinical applications, but also explains clearly the practical skills needed to actually provide neurofeedback.

What can I expect as a student of the New Mind Neurofeedback Web course?

The New Mind Neurofeedback Web Course provides an opportunity for professionals to complete 36 didactic hours of BCIA-approved training over the Internet. The author draws upon extensive experience at the clinical level as well as years of teaching EEG biofeedback to other professionals in both clinical and workshop settings. Course modules have been field-tested and have received enthusiastic praise from participants learning EEG biofeedback.

Whether you want to work toward BCIA certification or expand your expertise, you will find this course very informative, easy-to-follow and cost-effective. Many workshops cover only one approach to neurofeedback, but our course reviews many different perspectives on neurofeedback and provides a balanced view of the entire field.

BONUS: Free access to New Mind “Lunch and Learn” sessions during the first year of enrollment. “Lunch and Learns” are an hour long, scheduled twice a week at 12 noon EST live on the internet. Watch the presentation and join in the conversation. Ask questions in a friendly environment with people who want to learn.

Getting Started in Neurofeedback – Demos Trainings

By John Demos

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a learning tool that teaches the brain restful states, flexibility and efficiency through operant conditioning of the EEG (brainwaves). Neurofeedback can be used separately or as an adjunct to other clinical tools and therapies (such as psychotherapy, CBT, HRV, etc.). When doing neurofeedback, the clinician addresses neuronal relaxation issues in the brain — often revealed as disregulation or abnormalities in the brainwaves (as shown in the EEG).

Why Add Neurofeedback to Your Practice?

Improvements in brainwave patterns promote resolution of symptoms that interfere with optimum functioning. Clients often report results such as better sleep, inner stillness, improved organization of thoughts, concentration, attention and alleviation of troublesome symptoms associated with various mental or physical issues. Neurofeedback can be a powerful adjunct to traditional psychotherapy approaches. It can target root physiological causes of many mental health symptoms through neuronal relaxation and re-regulation of the EEG. Many find it a viable alternative to medications.

Why Consider Demos Neurofeedback Training Seminars?

Finding quality training can be challenging to a person just getting started with neurofeedback. One of the reasons I wrote my book Getting Started with Neurofeedback was to provide newbies with an anchor grounding them in generally accepted neurofeedback practice. While there is an abundance of articles written to help a person understand the depth and breadth of various topics in neurofeedback, there was a dearth of literature that was easy to understand and absorb for the professionals who didn’t have a background in neurology and electroencephalography (EEG) dynamics.

The purpose and scope of my training seminars has always been to provide practical information for the clinician rather than for the researcher. I have tried to avoid the latest fads in neurofeedback or to insist that one approach to neurofeedback is the ultimate method. My training seminars introduce students to several training methodologies: there is a place for eclecticism in neurofeedback. Over the years, numerous key figures have developed training approaches in neurofeedback that have worked. My goal is to draw from their work and help students see the value in various approaches.

The first and foremost issue in getting started with neurofeedback is to help the student understand the basics. We start with questions such as, “What is electroencephalography (EEG)?”, and “How does its activity relate to neurons and areas of the brain?” What’s normal, and what’s likely to be associated with problems? My students learn how to assess the brain at key sites, collate the information and compare it to prevalent symptoms and corresponding areas of the brain. Finally, I want to help students choose appropriate protocols. I caution students away from choosing protocols based solely on symptoms rather than what I consider to be the 3 necessary ingredients: (1) symptoms, (2) EEG, and (3) neurological information.

When students finish “Getting Started with Neurofeedback” training, I encourage them to begin acquiring data from family and friends to gain experience in assessment (goal is not to treat family or friends, but to practice assessment). Most professionals new to neurofeedback find it helpful to identify an experienced neurofeedback mentor to master basic skills needed to treat common problems that respond well to neurofeedback — such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety, and Depression. It’s important to understand that neurofeedback is a therapy or a training modality, not a cure for disorders. Peer-reviewed studies have repeatedly shown the value of neurofeedback training in reducing the symptoms of many disorders.

After practicing for a while, many students return for more training. StressTherapy Solutions, Inc. provides many opportunities for quality advanced training. I offer intensive training in brain mapping (QEEGs). Participants learn to use EEG recording caps and acquire reliable EEG data to create topographical brain maps that can be used to develop neurofeedback training protocols.

Getting Started with Neurofeedback is for clinicians interested in providing cutting-edge treatments, especially for patients or clients who have not improved with other counseling modalities or medications. Personally, I found that neurofeedback has opened up new therapy vistas. It’s been very satisfying to see clients heal themselves through their own learning power — and it’s empowering to them.

One last note: I think it’s important for professionals to get BCIA certification. Numerous therapy modalities and treatments such as acupuncture, reflexology, massage and many others have become popular in recent decades. They all have some form of certification to help assure the competence of their practitioners — and special state health licenses apply in some cases. I believe certification is critically important for the credibility of both the clinician and the neurotherapy field in general. Eventually I think it is likely to become a state licensure issue, and it will be helpful for clinicians to have established their credentials sooner rather than later.

About the author:

John N Demos, MA, LCMHC, BCIA-EEG is the Educational Director of Stress Therapy Solutions, Inc. He is certified by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) in neurofeedback. His “Getting Started with Neurofeedback” training seminars are accredited by BCIA. Those seminars are based upon his book “Getting Started with Neurofeedback” published by WW Norton & Co. Currently, he is conducting on-line group mentoring classes for those reaching out for certification.

Best Marketing Practices for Neurofeedback Practices

Marketing Your Neurofeedback Practice

StressTherapy Solutions is proud to introduce the newest instructor to our team, Dr. Joe Bavonese, owner of Uncommon Practices. He is joining STS with a focus on strengthening your practice and will be the exclusive marketing partner for STS Inc., representing the Neurofeedback, Biofeedback, and QEEG communities.

Click the video to listen to Dr. Joe Bavonese speak about marketing Your Neurofeedback Practice.

  • Challenges in marketing a neurofeedback practice
  • Eight biggest mistakes private practitioners make
  • Five key business principles
  • Creating a successful online presence
  • Community Networking
  • Action plan for success
  • Dr. Bavonese introduces his proven strategy on the first day, of all Ohio workshops.

Why did STS Inc. exclusively team up with Dr. Joe Bavonese?

  • Because we believe in his approach.
  • Because we believe in his success.
  • Because his mission benefits your mission as a clinician, and the industry’s mission as a whole.

Dr. Bavonese states, “Our mission is to take the best of what we have learned the slow, expensive, hard way – and teach it to private practitioners who have a sincere desire to succeed in private practice. We have great respect for the traditions of psychotherapy and counseling. We believe that they are extremely important, valuable, and at times, life-changing services that are much-needed in our communities.” Our goal is to provide psychotherapists and counselors with the best resources, information, tools, support, guidance, and accountability to help:

  • Provide the best service to the greatest number of people you desire to serve.
  • Create your own Ideal Practice, in whatever terms that may be, including financial, lifestyle, and other factors.
  • Master a marketing and business mindset that you can utilize for the rest of your career.
  • Create a balanced, healthy, fulfilling life for yourself. STS agrees with this wholeheartedly.

Both STS and Dr. Bavonese share one additional thing in common:

We are committed to doing everything we can to help you succeed in creating your Ideal Practice.
